Presented by Dr. M. Florencia Ricci, MD, PhD, Developmental Pediatrician, Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Manitoba

Topic

During her presentation, Dr. Ricci reviewed and discussed the current literature on neurodevelopmental outcomes after neonatal complex cardiac surgery and reviewed the importance of long-term neurodevelopmental follow-up and early intervention. Dr. Ricci also gave parents the opportunity to discuss any areas they felt more information and research are needed.

Speaker

Dr. Ricci is co-director of the Manitoba Neonatal Follow-up Clinic and a member of the Western Canadian Complex Pediatric Therapies Follow-up Program. Dr. Ricci completed her subspecialty training and PhD at the University of Alberta, where she studied neurodevelopmental outcomes of children with congenital heart disease. Her work in this area has led to multiple publications and presentations at both local and international conferences. Recently, she was invited to be a member of the Neurodevelopmental Section of the 2023 World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Organizing Committee. Through her clinical practice and research, Dr. Ricci continues to work on improving the neurodevelopmental outcomes of children with congenital heart disease.
